Pattern – NHS Rainbow (2100)
Materials:
Small amounts of DK yarn in the following colours: Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red
A 4mm circular knitting needle (a circular needle is recommended because the number of stitches rapidly grows and would be difficult to manage on a pair of straight needles).
Wool needle for sewing in ends.
Tension / Gauge:
Tension is not crucial for this pattern.
Instructions:
Using the 4mm circular needle with Violet yarn cast on 20 stitches
Row 1: K to end
Row 2: * (K in front and back of each st, K1) repeat from * until end (30 sts)
Rows 3 & 4: Sl 1, K to end
Change to Indigo
Row 5: K to end
Row 6: * (K in front and back of each st, K2) repeat from * until end (40 sts)
Rows 7 & 8: Sl 1, K to end
Change to Blue
Row 9: K to end
Row 10: * (K in front and back of each st, K3) repeat from * until end (50 sts)
Rows 11 & 12: Sl 1, K to end
Change to Green
Row 13: K to end
Row 14: * (K in front and back of each st, K4) repeat from * until end (60 sts)
Rows 15 & 16: Sl 1, K to end
Change to Yellow
Row 17: K to end
Row 18: * (K in front and back of each st, K5) repeat from * until end (70 sts)
Rows 19 & 20: Sl 1, K to end
Change to Orange
Row 21: K to end
Row 22: * (K in front and back of each st, K6) repeat from * until end (80 sts)
Rows 23 & 24: Sl 1, K to end
Change to Red
Row 25: K to end
Row 26: * (K in front and back of each st, K7) repeat from * until end (90 sts)
Rows 27 & 28: Sl 1, K to end
cast off loosely in garter stitch in red yarn
Sew in ends. Display your rainbow!
